Phases of the Futures Planning Project
A visual representation of the process is illustrated in the ‘Process Timeline’ document found here.
The Futures Planning process
The design of the Futures Planning process is to provide deep learning opportunities for both CRPS and for education stakeholders and members of the public who engage in a meaningful way.
The process will include three phases of dialogue and information generation
Phase 1: Community Values
October - November, 2007
Identification of community values relating to public education - what is important and what is possible for the future of education in the Bow Valley, and the future education needs of our children. This phase is now complete. With input from teachers, parents, students and community members we identified the skills, knowledge and qualities our children need to prepare for the world beyond school; and we identified the role of the school and the community in our children’s education.
The results from the Phase 1 community, teacher and student forums are now available on the Results page of this site.Phase 2: Education Trends and Forces of Change
January - February, 2008
The results from the Phase 2 community and teacher forums are now available on the Results page of this site.
This phase is now complete. Based on this information generated by teachers and community members, four scenarios were developed that highlight different future situations that we might find ourselves in. The Futures Planning Group (FPG) discussed the scenarios and identified several strategic directions as a starting point for Phase 3.Phase 3: Key Directions
March - May, 2008
Identification of key directions and approaches which will guide CRPS planning, decision-making and implementation in the coming years. While several key directions emerged in Phase 2, the FPG has chosen to further explore the potential of two over-arching directions in the Phase 3 forums. The FPG is interested in ideas that develop these two directions and also wants other ideas for directions that will build strong adaptable schools and quality learning for students.
The two over-arching directions for CRPS that are being used to frame the discussions in Phase 3 are to:
- Deliver education that fosters development of the whole child (intellectual, emotional, social, physical and spiritual development), and
- Position schools as the centre of learning and development in the community with the aim of building strong connections between schools, families and community organizations in support of educational delivery and life-long learning
