CPRS

Futures Planning Project...

Background

Much has changed in the issues surrounding schools and education in the Bow Valley:

  1. The communities  which CRPS serve and the choice available to parents of K- 12 schools have significantly changed over the last 10 years;
  2. Student populations have declined in recent years in the Bow Valley particularly in Canmore, away from households with school age children;
  3. Two separate schools, Our Lady of the Snows Academy and Ecole Notre-Dame des Monts, have opened their doors widening the choice for parents;
  4. The classroom is increasingly more complex as it reflects societal challenges and issues;
  5. Parent expectations and the involvement of Alberta Education have changed. Technology advances in education delivery open up tremendous possibilities to support learning in our schools and educational research continues to provide new information about how students learn best.

It is for all these reasons that CRPS believes it should engage in a futures planning process.

What is it?

CRPS Futures planning is an information and idea gathering process involving students, teachers, staff, parents, and the general public. This process will identify community values, education trends and the forces of change affecting education. It will determine future directions for public education in the Bow Valley. CRPS Futures planning will build a foundation that informs future CRPS strategic planning and decision making; leading to actions that will support achievement of the CRPS mission “Creating dynamic learning environments that ensure student success”.

The outcome of the Futures Planning process is to inform future CRPS strategic planning and decision making; leading to actions that will support student learning over the short and long term.
